Andrew Wang Remio Interview

Meet Andrew

Hello, everyone. I’m Andrew Wang. I used to be the vice president of NetEase. I have nearly twenty years of project management experience, with a focus on the development and management of utility products. Last year, I left the company to start my own business. I believe that AI presents an opportunity that will revolutionize the future, and I am eager to commit myself 100% to this field.

What inspired the creation of remio?

In my daily work, I was responsible for managing multiple projects. As the number of projects gradually increased, I was confronted with information overload. Extracting and organizing useful information from such a vast amount of data became an issue that I had to address. Moreover, I noticed that general knowledge workers around me also encountered the same problem. That is, how to better manage personal knowledge bases and, at the same time, leverage the capabilities of AI-native technologies to explore new frontiers. These experiences and observations inspired the creation of remio, aiming to solve these common pain points and help people manage information and knowledge more effectively.

How does remio differentiate itself from competitors?

remio stands out from competitors as an integrated AI note taking and personal knowledge base management product. While AI note taking is just its initial form and an information input method, it’s designed to record all the information users encounter in daily work and enable quick, easy retrieval when needed. Unlike many competitors with more limited functions, remio’s ultimate goal is to evolve into a universal AI personal office assistant, offering a more comprehensive and forward looking solution for information management and work assistance.

How does remio enhance note-taking and information organization?

remio significantly enhances note-taking and information organization through its standout feature of frictionless information input. With the web content auto-capture function, users can seamlessly save web content while browsing, providing an excellent user experience. When users search or pose questions within the notes, remio utilizes these captured historical records as a database for retrieval, tracing back to the source of the information and accurately pinpointing the original source location. This unique functionality has been a major highlight, creating those “whoa moment” experiences for numerous beta users.

How does intelligent search in remio work?

remio builds users’ personal knowledge bases through seamless note – taking and information input. Then, it leverages the powerful AI capabilities of DeepSeek to manage and retrieve information from these knowledge bases. It offers a dedicated retrieval and Q&A function specifically for personal knowledge repositories. What’s more, all information is stored locally, ensuring both privacy and security while enabling intelligent search that can quickly and accurately find relevant content based on user queries by analyzing and understanding the context within the local knowledge base.

How does remio ensure context-aware search and retrieval?

remio ensures context-aware search and retrieval in two key ways. First, it offers both manual and AI – automated management of “collections” for users’ notes. This allows for organized categorization of information, which helps in establishing context. Second, by leveraging the capabilities of large language models, Remio can better understand users’ needs. These models analyze the language and intent behind user queries, enabling the system to sift through the notes and collections and identify and retrieve the most relevant information based on the context.

How do you see the future of AI-powered productivity tools?

We believe that with the development of hardware, an increasing number of large language models will be executed locally on users’ devices. This not only safeguards user privacy but also enables the creation of more personalized universal assistants that have a deeper understanding of users. Remio is actively working towards this future, aiming to leverage local execution of advanced AI technologies to provide users with highly tailored, private, and intelligent productivity solutions.

What’s been your biggest challenge as a SaaS founder so far?

The rapid pace of technological advancement has been a significant challenge. At the same time, we have an extensive list of features and improvements we want to implement, but due to the limited size of our team, the development and iteration process is relatively slow. Balancing the need to keep up with the latest technologies and meet user demands while working with our current resources is a constant struggle, and we’re constantly looking for ways to optimize our workflow and scale efficiently.

What advice would you give to SaaS founders entering the software market?

My advice to SaaS founders entering the software market is to focus on solving a real – world problem or addressing an actual scenario. When you identify a genuine pain point that users face in their daily work or lives and create a solution for it, you are more likely to generate commercial value.

Did you enjoy our interview? Do you have anything to say to our community?
