Interview with Matthias Lugert of Seobility

Matthias Lugert Seobility Interview

Meet Matthias

I’m Matthias, CEO of Seobility.net — one of the most popular all-in-one SEO tools. I joined Seobility almost 8 years ago, and I’ve been passionate about making SEO more accessible and effective for businesses ever since. Taking the lead as the CEO two years ago created a wonderful opportunity for me to double down on that.

What inspired the creation of Seobility?

Please note that I am not the Founder of Seobility, but the CEO. However, the Founder of Seobility, Thomas, was a true SEO “OG”, with excellent (technical) SEO knowledge already in the earlier days of SEO. When he saw the opportunity to build an SEO tool that combines comprehensive functionality with genuine ease of use, he took it. Seeing many businesses struggling with overly complex SEO tools, he wanted to create a solution that would democratize SEO success.

How does Seobility differentiate itself from other SEO tools in the market?

Seobility stands out through our focus on actionable insights rather than just data dumps. We’ve built our platform to not only identify SEO issues, but to provide prioritization assistance and clear, practical steps for improvement. Our intuitive interface and straightforward recommendations make SEO optimization accessible without sacrificing depth of analysis.

How does Seobility approach rank tracking and backlink analysis?

Our rank tracking and backlink analysis are built on three principles: accuracy, context, and actionability. You will get daily accurate rankings for Google both on a national and local level. We also provide mobile rankings. Adding tags to your keywords enables more thorough analyses and helps generate actionable insights. For backlinks, we focus on metrics and tools that help users evaluate their link profiles and extend it qualitative, rather than just chasing numbers.

How beginner-friendly is Seobility for users new to SEO?

We’ve specifically designed Seobility to be beginner-friendly without compromising on capabilities. Our step-by-step guidance system helps newcomers understand not just what to do, but why they’re doing it. We’ve found this educational approach helps users build lasting SEO expertise.

How does Seobility adapt to frequent changes in search engine algorithms?

If you manage to look behind the noise, you will see that SEO always was about two things: a) creating superior value and user experience for the website users, and b) making it as easy as possible for search engines to understand that your website delivers exactly that. Those who follow these guiding principles remain unbothered by more frequent Google updates but will see their efforts bear fruit. And our tools help along this path.

How do you see AI impacting SEO strategies in the near future?

Initially, AI started to reshape SEO, mainly when it came to content creation or drafting. We increasingly see it enhancing or supporting, not replacing, traditional SEO practices. At Seobility, we’re actively exploring that and will surely add more AI-powered tools to our SEO suite, while maintaining the fundamental principles of good SEO.

What common SEO mistakes do you still see businesses making?

Common mistakes we still see include focusing too much on keywords and not creating genuinely valuable content. Many businesses also neglect technical SEO fundamentals, which often undermines or holds back their other optimization efforts and investments.

What advice would you give to businesses just starting their SEO journey?

For businesses starting their SEO journey, my key advice is to focus on fundamentals first: ensure your technical SEO is solid, create high-quality content that serves your users’ needs, and build a sustainable, long-term strategy. Don’t chase quick fixes or try to game the system.

Did you enjoy our interview? Do you have anything to say to our community?

Thank you for these thoughtful questions. To your community, I’d emphasize that successful SEO is about playing the long game. Focus on building sustainable practices that align with both user needs and search engine guidelines. The most successful SEO strategies I’ve seen are those that prioritize user value over quick wins.
