Interview with Ramil of Fynlo

Ramil Fynlo Interview

Meet Ramil

Hi, I’m Ramil, one of the co-founders of Fynlo, an accounting and invoicing platform designed specifically for small business owners.

Before building Fynlo, I spent over a decade working in UX design for startups around the world. Recently, I transitioned into product management, where I focus on simplifying complex systems into intuitive and meaningful experiences. Over time, I’ve worked closely with developers, designers, QA, and most importantly users, to help shape what Fynlo is becoming today.

We are a very lean team, and that has allowed us to keep our costs low while still moving fast and delivering features that truly matter to our users.

What inspired you to build Fynlo?

The inspiration came from seeing how expensive and intimidating most accounting software can be. Personally, I’ve never enjoyed bookkeeping, and I know many small business owners and freelancers feel the same way.

We built Fynlo for people who are not accountants but still need to manage their finances. There are many tools out there, but we wanted to create something that simplifies invoicing, quotes, reporting, and the entire process of managing finances in a way that feels approachable and not overwhelming.

What makes Fynlo different from traditional accounting software?

Traditional accounting software can feel overwhelming, and many of them are not really built with the everyday user in mind. Often, they are packed with features but lack clarity and ease of use.

Fynlo takes a different approach. We focus on simplicity, automation, and building based on what our users actually need. Instead of overwhelming users with hundreds of features, we prioritize creating an intuitive experience where things just make sense.

Traditional tools are often designed for accountants. Fynlo is designed for business owners.

Can you walk us through how Fynlo works from a user’s perspective?

From a user’s perspective, everything is designed to feel simple and guided.

Users can create quotations, invoices, or record expenses. They can import or export their data easily. They can add clients and set up their chart of accounts, and the system helps organize everything behind the scenes.

Each transaction can be reviewed, confirmed, or adjusted if needed. Reports and insights are automatically generated, and users receive regular summaries of their financial performance.

They can also upload documents to Google Drive, and using AI, those records are automatically processed and imported into Fynlo.

The goal is to minimize manual work. Users do not need to think in terms of debits and credits because the system takes care of that for them.

How do you design Fynlo for users with zero accounting knowledge?

We design with a no assumptions mindset.

We use simple and familiar terms like income and expenses. We provide clear walkthroughs and helpful tooltips. We make it easy for users to reach out for support whenever they need help.

Most importantly, we listen. We continuously validate our product with non-accountants. If something feels confusing, we simplify it further. Our goal is always clarity over complexity.

What are the most common user mistakes, and how does Fynlo prevent them?

There is no perfect system, but many common mistakes come from doing things manually. Manual work makes it harder to track everything and increases the chances of errors.

From my own experience using spreadsheets, I’ve seen how much time and effort it takes compared to using a system like Fynlo. That time can be better spent growing the business.

Some common mistakes include wasting time encoding receipts, forgetting to follow up on overdue invoices, editing past records that affect reports, duplicating entries, and making calculation errors.

Fynlo helps prevent these by using AI to scan and organize receipts, automating reminders for overdue invoices, locking accounting periods to prevent accidental changes, detecting duplicates, and generating accurate reports automatically.

We design the system in a way that makes it hard for users to break their own books.

What are the biggest accounting challenges small businesses face?

One of the biggest challenges is the lack of support. From our research and user feedback, many people feel that existing software does not really listen to them.

It can be frustrating when something goes wrong and there is no one to help. That is something we strongly believe in changing. We want to build not just a product, but a system where users feel supported and heard.

How is AI impacting invoicing and accounting platforms?

AI is transforming accounting from a manual task into something more automated and intelligent.

It can extract data from receipts and invoices, reduce time spent on repetitive work, detect errors, and provide real time insights.

In the future, accounting platforms will feel more like advisors. Instead of just recording history, they will actively help users make better financial decisions.

Where do you see Fynlo in the next 3 to 5 years? What features are you most excited to build next?

In the next 3 to 5 years, I see Fynlo becoming a fully automated financial assistant for small businesses.

I’m especially excited about building smarter AI driven insights and forecasting, fully automated bookkeeping, seamless bank integrations with real time reconciliation, and a built-in assistant that helps users manage their finances.

We also want to provide proactive alerts such as cash flow risks and tax reminders, and eventually offer guidance during tax season to help users avoid penalties.

Did you enjoy our interview? Do you have anything to say to our community?

Absolutely. It was a great opportunity to reflect on why we started Fynlo and what we are really trying to build.

To the SaasPirate community, keep building and keep learning. It is not always easy, but every step teaches you something valuable. Just keep going and keep growing.
