Ruslan Turguldinov Interview

Meet Ruslan

Hi! My name is Ruslan, and I am the CPO of WebTotem. I have been working in the field of cybersecurity product management for several years. My experience covers various aspects of this field, from data protection to managing corporate security systems. Throughout my career, I have worked with many companies, helping them develop their products and protect their digital assets and data from cyber threats.

What inspired you to create WebTotem?

The idea to create WebTotem came from the desire to develop an effective and affordable tool for protecting websites from various cyber threats. I saw many small and medium-sized businesses facing serious security issues due to the lack of accessible and easy-to-use solutions. We wanted to develop a product that would be available to everyone, regardless of their technical background, and that could effectively protect their online presence.

How does WebTotem differentiate itself from other website security tools?

WebTotem stands out for its versatility and ease of use. We have integrated several key features into our product, such as vulnerability monitoring, an intrusion detection system, and continuous security auditing, which are usually only available in expensive enterprise solutions. Additionally, our system uses advanced technologies to automatically update and adapt to new threats, making it reliable and up-to-date at all times.

Can you explain how WebTotem’s intrusion detection system operates?

The WebTotem Intrusion Detection System (IDS) operates by analyzing traffic and behavior on the website. We use a combination of signature-based and behavioral methods to identify suspicious activity. The signature-based method allows us to detect known threats by comparing incoming data with a database of known attacks. Our cybersecurity experts, in collaboration with our CERT, continuously work on adding new signatures and updating the database.

The behavioral method analyzes typical user behavior patterns and identifies anomalies that may indicate potential attacks. In the event of a threat detection, the system automatically notifies the site administrator and takes protective measures.

What are the most common cyber threats that websites face today?

The most common cyber threats for websites include DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, SQL injections, XSS (Cross-Site Scripting) attacks, vulnerabilities in plugins and themes, and phishing attacks. These threats can lead to serious consequences, such as data breaches, reduced site performance, and damage to a company’s reputation.

How important is regular website security auditing, and how often should it be done?

Regular website security auditing is critically important to ensure protection against new threats and vulnerabilities. It is recommended to conduct audits at least quarterly and every time significant updates or changes are made to the site. Ideally, companies should use tools for continuous monitoring, such as WebTotem, to promptly identify and address security issues.

What are the benefits of using a security monitoring tool like WebTotem over traditional security measures?

The benefits of using WebTotem include the automation of monitoring and threat detection processes, which reduces the burden on IT staff and allows them to focus on other tasks. Our tool provides a comprehensive approach to security by combining multiple functions into one product, which helps reduce costs and increase protection efficiency. Additionally, WebTotem offers rapid incident response and regular reports, helping maintain a high level of security.

How do you see the role of cybersecurity evolving in the next 5-10 years?

In the next 5-10 years, the role of cybersecurity will only increase as digital transformation continues and the number of cyber threats grows. We will see wider use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict and prevent attacks, as well as the integration of cybersecurity into all aspects of business and IT infrastructure. The importance of cybersecurity will be recognized at the leadership level, and investments in this area will increase.

What advice would you give to businesses just starting to implement website security measures?

For businesses just beginning to implement website security measures, my advice is to start with a thorough assessment of your current security posture. Identify any existing vulnerabilities and prioritize addressing them. Invest in a reliable security solution like WebTotem to automate monitoring and protection. In WebTotem, we have a special Scoring section designed specifically for this purpose. It conducts a security audit of your website and provides recommendations for addressing any issues. Additionally, our clients frequently consult with us about fixing vulnerabilities, and we are always happy to assist them.

Educate your team about basic cybersecurity practices, as human error is often a significant risk factor. Establish a routine for regular security audits and updates to ensure your defenses stay current. Lastly, develop an incident response plan so your team knows exactly how to react in the event of a security breach. Remember, cybersecurity is an ongoing effort that requires continuous vigilance and improvement.

Did you enjoy our interview? Do you have anything to say to our community?

Yes, I really enjoyed the interview! I would like to thank you for the interesting questions and the opportunity to share our experience. I want to tell our audience that internet security is a task that concerns each of us. Remember to protect your websites and data, use modern tools, and follow best practices. And, of course, I invite you to try WebTotem and see its effectiveness for yourself!
