Interview with Amanda Woods of BookMuffin

Amanda Woods BookMuffin Interview

Meet Amanda

Hi everyone, I’m Amanda, the owner of the BookMuffin review platform. My background is in IT project management, with a Science degree with Honours from The University of Melbourne. With 10 years of experience in project management, I’ve successfully delivered numerous IT projects for the BBC, Hewlett Packard, Siemens, and Steria in both the UK and Australia. Over the past five years, I’ve shifted my focus to digital marketing and SEO copywriting.

What inspired you to start BookMuffin, and what influenced your decision to enter the entrepreneurial world?

Unlike other individuals you have interviewed, I am not a professional programmer or developer. I purchased BookMuffin from Flippa, and its developer is now a vital part of my team. As an author of many non-fiction books, I recognized its potential immediately and was looking for another website to purchase that aligned with my goals.

How does BookMuffin differentiate itself from other book review platforms?

BookMuffin is much more than a book review platform. Our unique muffin credit system allows authors, especially those on Amazon KDP, to gain the reviews they need. We try to focus on KDP authors who are often overlooked, helping them gain reviews to build trust with their audience. We also provide feedback to new authors about possible improvements to their book. This targeted approach makes BookMuffin a game-changer in the book review landscape.

What advice would you give to women looking to enter the software industry?

Just go for it. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Consider purchasing a micro SaaS that’s ready for market or hire a developer from platforms like Upwork once you’ve identified your target audience and the problems you aim to solve. Learn web development skills to help you support the platform.

Can you share some significant challenges you faced as a female SaaS founder?

Balancing multiple family responsibilities while promoting my websites and SaaS products is challenging. Having an agile project plan with clear priorities helps.

Tell us about your new product, Teacher’s Trophy. What does it do?

Teacher’s Trophy is a resource and product feedback platform designed to help users succeed on Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT), TES.com, and similar educational platforms. It’s aimed at new teacher sellers looking to establish themselves in these marketplaces. Teacher’s Trophy helps you connect with other teacher sellers who use and provide feedback on your educational products. This honest feedback helps improve everyone’s resources for enhanced learning, and boosts sales.

Teacher's Trophy helps you succeed as a new seller on TPT & TES on our resource review platform.

How does it work?

Create an account and submit your resource file to our private, supportive community. Track when a teacher downloads your product and receive feedback through private messages. Your teaching resources and feedback remain private on our platform, allowing you to improve your products quickly with specific insights.

Which platforms does it work on?

Teacher’s Trophy operates independently of TPT and other educational resource marketplaces. We are not affiliated with any teaching resource platforms. You decide where to sell, and we help you create the best product for your target market.

Is Teacher’s Trophy similar to BookMuffin?

Yes, it uses a similar credit system to exchange services on the platform. Instead of reviews, we facilitate feedback, which is crucial for new sellers in this growing market.

Did you enjoy our interview?

Yes, I did! It’s wonderful to read other founders’ interviews and encourage others to enter this field. Thanks for your support!

Do you have any final words for our community?

“The best time to plant a tree was yesterday; the best time to start your own business is today. But you can get a head start by buying an established business that has already navigated the challenging early stages.”
