Meet Mustaasam
Hi everyone! đź‘‹
I’m Mustaasam Saleem, a passionate entrepreneur and community builder deeply immersed in the WordPress ecosystem. I graduated as a Software Engineer, but what truly excites me is building communities and helping people thrive online.
Tell us a bit about your industry experience?
This passion for community building goes way back. Even in high school, I created Facebook groups to connect students. At university, I saw how many new students were struggling, so I built a community to help them navigate the admissions process—thousands of students went through it!
This desire to connect and empower others led me to Cloudways (now part of DigitalOcean) in 2016. It was an amazing five years contributing to their growth from a small team to a huge company, signing up hundreds of new users every day. I’m proud to say I was a part of that journey.
I’m an active member of the WordPress community, having spoken at local meetups, sharing my knowledge and experiences with other WordPress enthusiasts.
I’ve also attended several WordCamps, including WordCamp Europe in Germany (2019), Portugal (2022), and Greece (2023), as well as WordCamp Asia in Thailand (2023).
For a while, I explored social media management at Social Champ, but the pull of WordPress was just too strong. So, I came back to my roots with MainWP, a game-changing plugin for managing multiple WordPress sites.
After two fantastic years, I decided to strike out on my own as an entrepreneur.

What inspired you to start HostWP.io?
I started HostWP.io because I saw a real gap in the market for WordPress hosting. Many hosting providers offer generic solutions that might work for basic websites, but they don’t cater to the specific needs of WordPress.
WordPress sites require speed, security, and ease of use, and I felt like a lot of providers were falling short in these areas.
After working in the web hosting industry for several years, I witnessed countless WordPress sites struggling due to limitations in their hosting. They were slow, vulnerable to attacks, and difficult to manage. This experience fueled my desire to create a better solution.
That’s where HostWP.io comes in. We’re passionate about WordPress and understand its unique requirements. We built our hosting platform from the ground up specifically for WordPress, using cutting-edge technology to ensure optimal performance, robust security features, and a user-friendly experience.
We believe that WordPress users deserve a hosting solution that empowers them to focus on creating amazing content and building their online presence, without having to worry about the technical complexities of web hosting.

What is the most common pain point users experience when hosting WordPress sites, and how does HostWP address it?
The biggest challenge for WordPress users is ensuring their websites are fast, secure, and reliable.
- Speed: Slow loading times frustrate visitors and hurt your search engine rankings. HostWP addresses this with blazing-fast servers powered by NVMe SSDs, LiteSpeed Enterprise, and a complimentary QUIC Cloud CDN Standard plan for lightning-fast delivery of your content.
- Security: Website security is paramount. HostWP provides a built-in firewall and offers 1-click malware scanning and auto-cleaning to keep your site safe. We also include built-in DDoS protection via cPGuard and the integrated QUIC Cloud CDN.
- Support: When you need assistance, you want it from experts. That’s why our support team is comprised of experienced WordPress engineers who understand the nuances of the platform and can provide prompt and effective solutions.
What advice would you give to someone launching their first WordPress website?
1. Choose a Reliable Hosting Provider: Selecting a reliable hosting provider is foundational for website performance and security. Look for providers specializing in WordPress hosting that offer features like optimized servers, robust security measures, and excellent customer support.
2. Prioritize Website Security:
- Strong Passwords: Utilize strong, unique passwords for your WordPress administrator account. Avoid common passwords or using “admin” as your username.
- Change Default Login: Alter the default WordPress login URL (e.g., /wp-admin/) to a custom, less predictable address.
- Regular Updates: Keep your WordPress core files, themes, and plugins updated to the latest versions. The majority of website vulnerabilities stem from outdated versions, leaving your site susceptible to exploits.
- Limit Plugin Usage: Install only essential plugins. Overloading your website with unnecessary plugins can increase the attack surface and slow down performance.
- Basic Security Measures: Implement basic security measures like two-factor authentication (2FA) for added protection.
3. Learn Basic WordPress Skills: Familiarize yourself with the WordPress dashboard and its core functionalities. Learn how to manage users, create content, and install and configure plugins. This will empower you to effectively manage and maintain your website.
By following these essential steps, you can lay a strong foundation for a successful and secure WordPress website.
How has running WPfounders shaped your perspective on the WordPress business ecosystem?
Running WPfounders has opened my eyes to the WordPress business world. We’ve featured over 125 founders, and a common theme I’ve noticed is the importance of following your passion.
Many successful founders emphasize the need to do what you love and excel at, instead of trying to copy others.
WPfounders has also shown me how important the WordPress community is. It’s all about helping each other out, sharing knowledge, and learning from each other’s experiences.
The WordPress world is always changing, so it’s important to stay updated and keep learning. WPfounders has driven home the importance of continuous learning and adapting to the ever-evolving landscape.
What challenges are unique to running a SaaS business in the hosting niche?
While the hosting niche itself presents challenges, running a SaaS business within it adds a unique layer of complexity:
- Customer Churn: High churn rates are a significant concern in SaaS. Customers can easily switch hosting providers, making customer retention paramount. We focus on providing exceptional value through features like free migrations, proactive support, and regular product enhancements to minimize churn.
- Scalability and Resource Management: SaaS businesses need to scale their infrastructure rapidly to accommodate growing customer bases. We constantly monitor resource utilization and proactively adjust our infrastructure to ensure performance and prevent bottlenecks.
- Pricing and Packaging: Offering competitive pricing while maintaining profitability can be challenging. We carefully analyze our pricing models, considering factors like customer lifetime value and the cost of providing services.
- Innovation and Differentiation: The hosting market is constantly evolving. Differentiating our offering through unique features, innovative technology, and exceptional customer experience is important for long-term success.
By addressing these unique SaaS challenges, we aim to build a sustainable and thriving business in the competitive hosting market.
